Explorer 1, the first U.S. Earth-orbiting satellite, was launched January 31, 1958 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch vehicle was an Army Jupiter-C rocket. Explorer 1 orbited the Earth every 115 minutes.

MER-A Launch Pad Activities

23 Apr 2003
The first stage and interstage of the Delta II were erected for MER-A on Pad 17-A at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

28 Apr 2003
Second stage erection took place.

9 May 2003
Simulated Flight and Engine Sequence was successfully completed.

13-16 May 2003
The solid motor booster erection was completed with three sets of three motors being attached to the first stage over several days.

21 May 2003
Simulated Flight Test was successfully completed.

28 May 2003
MER 2 spacecraft was mated to the second stage.

31 May 2003
The fairing was installed over the MER 2 spacecraft.
