The seating assignments in the Firing Room change according to the launch vehicle. For example, the seating arrangement for a launch using a Delta II launch vehicle may be different from the seating arrangement for a launch using a Pegasus launch vehicle.


NASA's twin robot geologists, the Mars Exploration Rovers, are embarking on a journey to Mars. Their mission: To uncover the secrets of the Red Planet's evolution.

Adalberto Sierra Jr. receives information from the mission director on issues pertaining to overall payload health, status of operational network and progress of payload anomaly resolution. He provides information to the the mission director on issues pertaining to the progress of countdown operations. He will give a “Go/No-Go” status to the NASA launch manager.

Sierra was born in New York City then moved to Puerto Rico at the age of 10. Spanish is his second language. He graduated with a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico in 1989. He received a master of science degree in management from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne in 1994.

He came to work for NASA Kennedy Space Center in 1990 as an Orbiter Mechanisms and Payload Handling engineer. After working in several other engineering groups and completing the NASA Professional Development Program he was promoted to mission integration manager. Sierra serves as the project manager and primary interface for the ELV Program of the NASA Spacecraft Programs/Projects and to the launch service providers for a variety of missions.
