  Mercury is the least-explored of the terrestrial planets. It has been visited only by Mariner 10, which flew by the planet three times in 1974 and 1975.

The MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging mission (MESSENGER) will study Mercury - the least explored terrestrial planet in our solar system - shedding light on Earth's evolution.

Mr. Grant oversees MESSENGER’s overall development and operation, reporting directly to the Principal Investigator and the NASA Discovery Program Office on MESSENGER’s technical, schedule and programmatic status.

David Grant has managed several satellite projects for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, including the Thermosphere, Ionosphere, Mesosphere, Energetics and Dynamics (TIMED) mission and the Polar Bear upper-atmosphere research mission. He also has an extensive background in digital equipment design, optical signal and image processing, lasers and electro-optical devices.
