Title: Astronaut Alan B. Shepard in lunar surface simulation training
Description:
Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., commander of the Apollo 14 mission, takes
part in a simulation of extravehicular activity at the Kennedy Space
Center. Here, Shepard, wearing an Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU),
simulates the use of tongs, a geological aid device used to gather lunar
samples. A Gnomon is deployed near Shepard's right foot. A Lunar
Geological Exploration Camera (LGEC, a 35mm stero camera under review) is
attached to the chest area of Shepard's EMU. A Modular Equipment
Tranpsorter (MET), a sort of portable workbench, is in the background.
