Title: STS-34 Atlantis, OV-104, payload bay with Galileo spacecraft and IUS
  Description:
The Galileo spacecraft and its inertial upper stage (IUS) installed in the
payload bay (PLB) of Atlantis, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 104 at a Kennedy Space
Center (KSC) processing facility. IUS is supported in PLB by airborne
support equipment (ASE) forward cradle and aft frame tilt actuator (AFTA)
table. Launch of mission STS-34 is planned for no earlier than 10-12-89
with Galileo to be deployed from the PLB about six hours after launch.
The IUS will be ignited shortly thereafter to place Galileo on a planetary
trajectory which will carry it past Venus once and the Earth twice before
swinging out toward Jupiter. Galileo is to arrive in the vicinity of the
Solar System's largest planet more than six years after launch. The
parent spacecraft will become the first to go into orbit around Jupiter
and will spend two years studying the large planet and its moons. A probe
will be deployed from Galileo during planetary approach to descend into
Jupiter's dynamic atmosphere and radio information back to the orbiting
spacecraft. View provided by KSC with alternate number KSC-89PC-820.
