An engineer and scientist with the Boeing Company, Mark Hutchins is charged with the resupply and return of the Multi-Purpose Logistics Modules (MPLM), the reusable cargo carriers that ferry equipment to and from the International Space Station. He also led the team responsible for receiving the three MPLMs and establishing the ground processing capability for the first phase of ISS resupply and return missions.

Hutchins came to Kennedy Space Center as an operations engineer for McDonnell Douglas, working in payload ground operations. Since 1987, he has worked with numerous payload customers. His more noteworthy assignments included the Tethered Satellite System, Wake Shield, SPACEHAB and the International Space Station Node 1, "Unity." In his current role, he spends a great deal of time at the launch pads, orbiter processing facilities (OPF) and the Space Station Processing Facility (SSPF).

Born in Rhode Island and raised in Connecticut, Hutchins earned a degree in Biomedical Ethics at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He spent three years teaching high school biology and chemistry at a private school in Connecticut before beginning his career at Kennedy Space Center.
