What kind of things can scientists
learn from the infrared that
they can't learn from other
telescopes like the Chandra
or Compton observatories? |
Peter from
Basel Swiss
Can SIRTF take photos of other
planets like Mars, same as the
Hubble Space Telescope? |
Andy from
Grangemouth, U.
They are saying that an earth
trailing orbit has never been
used before, why now are they
deciding to use it? |
Ben from
Brooklyn, NY
Why was an earth-trailing solar
orbit chosen for SIRTF? (as
opposed to an earth orbit, or
one that orbits the sun away
from earth). Thank you, -Ben |

Boulder, Colora
At what temperature will the
mirrors operate and why are
they at that temperature? |
RichO from
Elk Grove, IL
The images that SIRTF will be
taking, how will they compare
to Hubble? Will there be a comparison
photo made of and object from
Hubble and SIRTF so we can see
the difference? |
Brian from
Elk City Town
What is the great thing of SIRTF
that makes the great pictures
that we can see for the science
and for the beautiful of space
and the universe? |
Marcus from
Toronto, Canada
As SIRTF looks for extra-solar
planets, will it find Hot Jupiters
or Terrestrial Rocky planets?
|
Jeff from
London
Is the asteroid that was annouced
last summer still on a direct
hit with Earth? If yes when?
|
Elaine

What do you think the most important
part of this mission will end
up being? What new discoveries
can we hope to gain from this
mission? |
Juan
Rodriguez from Gijon, Spain
What is the resolution of SIRTF
pictures? Will we see the same
detail, in infrared, as in the
Hubble pictures? Thanks. |
Juan
Rodriguez from Gijon, Spain
Can SIRTF be useful to study
the distribution of interplanetary
dust in our solar system? |
Juan
Rodriguez from Gijon, Spain
Are you going to use SIRTF to
study Kuiper Belt objects? What
kind of information will you
obtain if so? Thanks! |
Juan

Is there any specific plan to
search for faint objects near
our solar system (brown dwarfs,
very low mass stars)? |
Geoffrey

How will an Earth Trailing orbit
help the SIRTF? |

I am 11.If Mars, Venus, and
Earth lined up would Mars and
Venus have the slightest gravitational
pull on Earth both ways?.Please
answer.!.!This is very important!!!!!!!!!!!!If

Hello I'm here to ask a question
about a future NASA program
that I watched on a video! Supposedly
in 2023 NASA is supposed to
launch a group of satellites
that once in orbit will fly
in laser guided formation around
a larger telescope! After all
this is complete it is supposed
to let NASA look directly at
a planet in another system inside
of looking for the shimmer of
a star to know if its there?
How is that project going and
are there any new updates about
it? thanks Wes Hopkins |

Will SIRTF be used to study
black holes? If so, do you think
SIRTF will give us a better
understanding of black holes,
how they work, and how they
affect the universe? |
Jennifer
from Edmonton,Canada
Will SIRTF be sending images
back to Earth, and/or computer
data files with numbers and
coordinates? Infrared light
is invisible to the human eye,
so how would the information
be represented in images interpreted
by astronomers and scientists?

How can interplanetary (sometimes
called zodiacal) dust emit infrared
radiation? |
Jennifer
from Edmonton,Canada
How will SIRFT be able to tell
the difference between a piece
of space dust only a few metres
away and a faint star some hundreds
of lightyears away? Will SIRTF
have any way of judging the
distance of the objects it will
study? |
