Checkout and Assembly Payload Processing Contract (CAPPS)
The Boeing Company

For more than 30 years, The Boeing Company has been an integral part of America's manned space program. Today, Boeing employees and subcontractor teammates work on payload processing projects for NASA and the Department of Defense.

In October 2002, Boeing was named the Checkout and Assembly Payload Processing Contractor (CAPPS).   CAPPS is the successor contract to the Payload Ground Operations Contract, which Boeing also held from late 1986 through September 2002. The Boeing Company has the distinction of being the major payload processor for the Space Shuttle.

Payload processing is an integral function of the shuttle program, and the KSC Division is responsible for all processing phases from the time a payload is scheduled to fly, through launch, landing and cargo deintegration after a completed mission.  Boeing’s success in this highly complex and delicate process has been acknowledged with some of the highest Award Fee ratings at KSC.
