United Space Alliance (USA)


USA is responsible for all the ground processing of the Space Shuttle fleet and for space-related operations with the U.S. Air Force. USA performs the modification, testing and checkout operations required to ready the Space Shuttle for launch. Shuttle processing responsibilities also include operation of the ocean-going ships which retrieve the expended solid rocket boosters after they are jettisoned and parachuted into the sea, as well as facilities and systems operations maintenance at KSC.
 

USA also performs spares provisioning, overhaul and repair activities of flight and ground support equipment for the Space Shuttle Program. Their Thermal Protection System Facility provides direct Orbiter support and their Depot effort includes Logistics support and repair, training, and certification, along with sustaining engineering capabilities. Their material requirements include flight and ground support equipment necessary to sustain flight readiness in support of Orbiter missions.
